Over the past 25 years, South Providence Neighborhood Ministries has touched thousands of lives. Adults in the neighborhood come for food, clothing, health products, a friendly face, a warm smile. Children come for a hot meal, homework help, new experiences, a loving mentor, a friend. The staff and volunteers strive to be a people of support, hope, and love.
With your continued support, our kids have learned photography, creative writing, and cooking skills. They’ve learned to resolve conflicts with their friends and neighbors in a positive, peaceful manner. They’ve been to the beach, baseball games, the circus, the aquarium – all places kids should go, but beyond the reach of their families. They’ve improved their reading and math skills. But most importantly, they have learned that they are valuable individuals, worthy of love, respect and a future.
The adults who visit our food pantry are often greeted by name. The staff knows their likes and dislikes, who needs the big cake because they have lots of family to feed and who prefers the rice over the pasta. When there’s a fire in the neighborhood, or a wife starting over after an abusive relationship, we find clothing, health products and check our list of resources for household items, and rent assistance.
At Thanksgiving, families receive all the makings for a traditional feast and at Christmas, there are socks, hats and gloves for everyone and gifts for all the kids.
We have much to celebrate. And lots of work ahead. Please partner with us by stopping by or calling and seeing how your talents can be used.
