Our “Louie’s Place” Youth Program develops and equips young people in South Providence and surrounding communities with resources and skills to succeed. The avenues we use are Academic Excellence, Leadership Development, Conflict Resolution, Emotional and Physical Safety, Life Skills and Enrichment.
We provide the following programs for youth:
- Academic Counseling – This program offers many enrichment activities. Our staff collaborates with schools and teachers of each student to ensure performance, and measure academic strengths and weaknesses. This year 85% of our students have had measurable improvements in both reading levels and academic progress reports.
- “ReThink It” Conflict Resolution Initiative – “ReThink It” is a conflict resolution and non-violence program for all ages. It’s our response to the growing and alarming spread of bullying and youth violence in Providence, and across the state and country. Our “ReThink It” team – which is youth-led – conducts workshops and programs at schools, churches, youth agencies and other venues.
- Summer Program – South Providence Neighborhood Ministries’ full-day summer camp offers youth a quality, safe, and educational environment to learn, grow and engage in enrichment activities from the end of June to late August. This program has the capacity to enroll 80 youth. Because of its many success stories, we receive over 300 applications for enrollment each year!
- Work Readiness Leadership Program – This is a comprehensive Leadership Development and College & Career Planning program for at-risk youth. It is designed to motivate and empower our young people while presenting them with opportunities to learn life skills needed for success. Since its inception, the program has guided 13 students through the process of entering and graduating from high school and then attending college or another place for post-secondary education.
