Food Pantry

67,000 households in Rhode Island suffer from food insecurity. This translates into over 15% of Rhode Islanders not having access to adequate food. SPNM provides food for over 500 low-income families with children, disabled adults and elderly who live in South Providence. Tuesday is their favorite day to come because there are some choices. One Tuesday in March the offerings included potatoes, apples, pears, onions, celery, beets, bread and yogurt along with canned and boxed items. The amount of food given is determined by family size.

The clients line up to check in with Doreen, an SPNM employee, before meeting a volunteer who will help them make their selections. Volunteers come from all walks of life and in a variety of ages.
In addition to giving of your time, food donations and money are always welcome. If you are planning a garden, consider planting a few extra rows and donating the produce. The Feinstain Challenge continues through the month of April and gifts of food and/or money will mean extra money for SPNM.
